TAS 056 : Dropshipping explained with Shawn Zhao from eTailerHub

By Chris on April 26, 2019

Welcome back to the show – great to be back after the Easter holidays. I managed to get myself into a fix on some tax issues which I’m working through! Fun and games there. Make sure you have more than enough cash in the bank to pay your taxes!
Some Amazon updates for this week.

Amazon’s really cracking down on email communications through the buyer messaging service. If you have an autoresponder set up and it’s saying something like if you’ve had a positive experience leave a product review and if you’ve had a problem, get in touch with me type ‘message’, change it immediately. It’s known as steering which means you’re directing people away from leaving a review if they’ve had a bad experience. That’s now a big ‘no-no’.

There have also been numerous cases or reports of people getting their accounts suspended when launching products using giveaways. As usual, Amazon’s being super vague as to the exact policy infringement, saying it might relate to BSR manipulation (BSR = Best Seller Rank), review manipulation to misuse of search and buy policies. It’s crazy and I’m still trying to figure out what’s going on there. You could argue a lightening deal is BSR manipulation, so as usual, everyone’s jumping at shadows not sure what’s causing it exactly.

TAS 055 : Phil Leahy from Retail Global discusses the state of Amazon Australia, eBay, Kogan and Catch

By Chris on April 3, 2019

This week we welcome the godfather of Online Retail both here and the world, Phil Leahy – the founder and CEO of Retail Global

I met Phil on Tuesday night this week at the Melbourne Meetup sponsored by Payoneer. Previous podcast guests, Calli, Matt and Steven Loi were in attendance – Calli spoke about how to set up an account on Amazon and I chatted about how to stay profitable on Amazon. Finally, there was a Q&A Panel with Steven Calli, myself and Adam Saunders from Channel Advisor.

Really fun event.

So having met Phil I had to ask if he could come on the show and chat about the state on online retail in Australia with a focus and discussion about the various marketplaces, Kogan, Catch, Amazon and eBay and where they’re all at right now.

Phil kindly offers a great discount for show listeners, so stay tuned to the end to listen out for the code which will have you a bunch on Australia’s premier retail conference, Retail Global.

TAS 054 : Perfect Product Photography for Amazon. Pauline Langmead from Melbourne Photography

By Chris on March 27, 2019

This week we welcome professional product photographer Pauline Langmead from Melbourne Photography.

https://www.melbournephotography.com/

So many people use their phone to take product photos or their own home lightbox and sometimes that can work.

But it is getting more and more competitive on Amazon and I’d argue you need to have professional photos for your listings as a minimum if you’re serious about succeeding on Amazon.

Sellers spend so much money on inventory, getting their sales copy sorted, but often neglect the most important aspect of an Amazon listing, the photos. Aside from what makes a great product photo, we chat about infographics and more.

TAS 053 : Bundling for Success. How Heather Jackson started selling on Amazon from Australia.

By Chris on March 16, 2019

This week we welcome back Heather Jackson from Orgon Buy Prep and Ship.

We chat about one of Heather’s true passions; Bundling products for sale on Amazon. Think ‘gift baskets’, ‘special occasions’ and more.

If you get in touch with Heather through her website or on Facebook, she has a new turn-key service where she and her team will source, bundle and list on your behalf.

It’s exactly how Heather got started selling on Amazon herself when she was living in Australia and now she’s hoping to help you get your start on the platform with this new service.

You could stand to make a few thousand $$$ per year without having to do very much (I think that’s the potential anyway – don’t quote me!)

Pictures of the example bundles Heather has put together recently, that we chatted about on the show, are below:
