TAS 019 : Michael Michelini Talks about how he created a syndicate of active investors who pooled $40K to Kickstart their Amazon journey.

By Chris on March 21, 2018

Really interesting concept this week.

I’ve heard about syndicates buying existing Amazon businesses, but there’s not much content about what happens when people pool their resources and experience together to create an Amazon FBA business.

This is exactly what Michael Michelini has done. He cast his net across the globe to try and find investors to help fund a $40K start-up syndicate.

Mike was inundated with offers and settled on 4 investors for the start-up.

Michael talks about the challenges of setting everything up, product research, finding suppliers, Yiwu sourcing disasters and much, much more.

Hope you enjoy this fascinating episode!

TAS 018 : How to get a $20 product from ZERO to $220k Per Year using Helium 10’s Cerebro and a Launch – Case study

By Chris on March 16, 2018

You can’t just make a product listing on Amazon, send some inventory to FBA and expect to sell millions.

You’ll be very disappointed and be wondering what all the ‘Amazon fuss’ is about.

Unless you have something completely unique, EVERY product needs to be launched.

There’s a process that’s been proven again and again and again. If it ain’t broke, don’t try and fix it.

These are the basic steps:

  1. Have an amazing product
  2. Make an Amazon product listing for it
  3. Find the keywords/phrases that show intent and have volume (I use Helium 10’s Cerebro – it’s a total and utter game-changer)
  4. Optimise your listing; Title, Bullets, Description, quality IMAGES (images make you the money).
  5. If you have a trademark, get brand registered with Amazon and use the enhanced brand content for your listings as well as access the early reviewer program
  6. Generate some discount codes, get them into the hands of Amazon customers on Facebook and launch using a 2 step storefront URL!
  7. Run PPC, hard.

In today’s episode, I discuss how we took a client’s product which was lucky to sell 2 – 3 units a week, to 30 UNITS A DAY in just 8 short days with 1 (one) REVIEW.

I talk about how I used Helium 10’s Cerebro tool to uncover which keywords and phrases to use, so we knew exactly what to rank for AND exactly how many units we needed to discount over 8 days during launch (Cerebro unearthed keywords that we hadn’t even considered and helped us to make a S#*T tonne more sales – I SO need to become a Helium 10 affiliate!)

I explain what we did to the Hero image to make it stand out like a sore thumb in the search results and compel potential customers to click through to take a look.

At $20 a unit, the product is 2 x (2 times) the price of most competitors on Page 1 and it’s still selling like crazy (TIP: you don’t need to be the cheapest to succeed. There’s something to be said for being, ‘reassuringly expensive’).

The brand is unknown and the product is up against major household brands in the USA. Digitally native brands on Amazon can crush established competitors.

Be ‘digitally native’.

My client knew we had to go into the red to get into the black – Any VC will tell you, they invest in loss-making ventures with an expectation of future returns. Launching products on Amazon is the same.

You have to have long-term goals.

You have to be prepared to lose money in the short term to make it back 20x, 30x later.

3 weeks into the launch the product only has 4 reviews, it’s still selling like hotcakes and the organic ranking is increasing.

I explain how I created links for customers to cut and paste so they could see demonstration videos of the product (why is no-one doing this?). I know it works because customers talk about how they watched the videos in their 5 star reviews!

The best bit?

We did all this from the comfort of our living rooms, right here in Melbourne, Australia. Half a world away.

The client is now opening the doors for us to launch his entire range of products.

In 12 months time, this small and innovative Australian company will be making an additional $1 Million USD – I can almost guarantee it.

One thing I don’t tell you in the episode is what the product actually is…

BUT…

If you register for my upcoming webinar on Wednesday the 28th March 2018 at 9.00pm, I’m going to reveal what the product is so you can see this case study completely laid bare.

My client has kindly given permission for me to show you the product, the process and the results.

You’d be crazy to miss this.

TAS 017 : John Cavendish from FBAFrontiers.com talks all things Amazon Europe, how to get set up and going and how he rapidly grew from Zero to $250,000 per month

By Chris on March 8, 2018

In todays’s episode I welcome to the show John Cavendish from FBA Frontiers who comes on to walk you through what it takes to get set up on Amazon Europe.

  • If you’re patient and can jump a few hurdles, there’s a lot less competition in Europe compared to the United States.
  • There are twice as many potential customers in Europe (740 Million of them)!
  • You don’t need as many reviews to get going
  • There’s a lot less risk for your products. For example, if a product’s just not working on Amazon Italy, it might be going great for you on Amazon Germany.

In my own case, I’ve been able to grow my business by about 30% just by setting up and listing in Europe with existing products.

There are a couple of ways you can grow your Amazon business:

  1. You can source, list and launch more products
  2. You can expand to other marketplaces.

I reckon expanding to other marketplaces with existing products is much easier!

If you’d like to sign up for John’s course (I’ve done it and it’s super comprehensive), where you can learn how get going from Woah to Go, then head over to FBA Frontiers

If you’re involved with a consumer brand here in Australia, send me a note or visit www.amaznsales.com to learn more about how we can work together…

TAS 016 : Ed Wiley oFX – Moving money back to Australia, how to leverage Amazon’s Early Reviewer Program to get not 5, but 30 new reviews and much more.

By Chris on March 1, 2018

Ed Wiley, Director of eCommerce at oFX comes on the show this week to talk all things currency, reviews, Amazon Australia and much more!

We chat about moving USD back to Australia (and EUR’s and GBP’s!) – how to save money rather than using Amazon’s internal payment system. I use oFX to move USD, GBP and EUR from Amazon marketplaces back to my bank. It saves me thousands of dollars a year.

We talk about Taxation implications for Australian Sellers operating in different Amazon marketplaces.

Ed has also set up his own Amazon Seller Account and shares how he was able to obtain Brand Registry and use Amazon’s Early Reviewer Program to Kickstart his reviews and get sales moving fast.

With the early reviewer program, Amazon ‘promises’ 5 early reviews on new products, but Ed explains how he was able to get over 30 new Amazon approved reviews using the system.

‘Gold’ right there.

Ed also discusses his strategy for Amazon Australia – how he’s been listing products he’s found on Aliexpress and drop shipping the delivery to Australian Customers…

Finally, we cover off a few listener questions at the end too.

Here are some of the recommended accountants in Australia Ed Recommends…

White & Black Chartered Accountants – jason@whiteblack.com.au (Brisbane)

Cloud Counting – tracey @ cloudcounting.com.au (Brisbane)

Dolmanbateman – ashields @ dolmanbateman.com.au (Sydney)

BlueRock – ricky.jessop@thebluerock.com.au (Melbourne)

Enjoy!

Amazon Australia Announces FBA to 3rd Party Sellers and FREE STORAGE until August 31st.

By Chris on February 27, 2018

Today, ahead of schedule, Amazon has rolled out the second phase of its strategy for Australia – launching FBA for Australian 3rd Party Sellers on Amazon.com.au.

To qualify for Free Shipping, customers simply need to have a basket size over $49. While that might be tricky today, it’ll get easier for customers once 3rd Party Sellers get their products into Amazon’s warehouse (Melbourne is the only one operational at the moment).

Having said that, I’m not seeing an FBA Shipping option in my Amazon Australia Seller Central account so I imagine it’s being rolled out slowly.

Anyway, there’s more information on this article here.

The carrot being dangled to encourage 3rd Party Sellers to get on board is the Free Storage of your inventory until the 31st of August.

Amazon will charge 3rd Party sellers from $1.76 to fulfil an order that fits in a small envelope and up to $25.48 for a bulky order weighing up to 30 kilograms.

It’ll charge $7.76 to pack and send an order weighing up to three kilograms. Australia Post charges $8.50 to send a parcel that size anywhere in Australia, so Amazon’s already looking a lot more competitive. If you’re doing volume, that’s a decent saving of about 9.5%, although, when you add the $1.76 pick and pack fee, it costs a little more.

Storage will be charged at $19.40 per cubic metre for the most of the year, and $26.50 per square metre in the busy Christmas shopping months from October to December.

As a 3rd Party Seller, we do pay a monthly fee of $49.95 to sell our products on Amazon, which takes a cut of sales between 6% and 15%, depending on the product category.

As more warehouses are created across Australia, Amazon’s FBA network will become much more efficient!

The 3rd act of Amazon’s play must be the aggressive roll-out of Amazon Prime to drive Australian Consumers to the site. That can’t be far away now…

While Amazon’s roll-out has been criticised as being a little underwhelming, a recent analysis of Amazon’s Australian website found the number of products being sold hit half a million in January, after doubling from December 14 to January 4.

Impressive.

TAS 015 : Amazon Product Ranking Expert, Anthony Lee from Six Leaf (AKA ZonBlast) discusses how to launch and rank your products on Amazon

By Chris on February 21, 2018

This week’s episode features world-renowned Amazon product ranking expert, Anthony Lee from Six Leaf (formerly ZonBlast) a specialist product launching company.

We dive into what ‘on-page’ or listing factors are the most important, right through to the importance of traffic, conversion rates and sales velocity.

  • Do steep discounts still work when running a launch promotion?
  • Should you try and rank for 1 key phrase, or multiple keyphrases during your launch?
  • Should you run PPC before, during or after launch?
  • Does the new product ‘honeymoon’ still exist?
  • What’s best… the DIY approach using Facebook Ads and storefront search, using a deals marketplace like ‘JumpSend’ or a dedicated launch service like Six Leaf or Viral launch? The answer might surprise you!
  • Of course, he also covers how he lost $60,000 USD on a failed product idea in my ‘Epic Product Failure’ segment.
  • Yep…. Sixty. Thousand. dollars. Far out Brussel Sprout.
